A Guided Hike to the location of the 1943 Crash of USAAF Dakota on Cnoc na Péiste mountain. With the view of Carrauntoohil, Ireland's highest peak, in sight, we will go off the beaten track and visit the site of The Lost SkyTrain, below Cnoc na Péiste ridge, a less travelled area of the MacGillicuddy’s Reeks.
During your climb, we will share local knowledge of this beautiful and desolate place, and the history of the famous skytrain crash in December 1943, when five American airmen lost their lives during World War II. (A short film about the tragedy can be found at at Lost Sky Train Movie)
During your climb, we will share local knowledge and information on this truly spectacular place along with encouragement and guidance during your trek.
The guide will lead the pace on the day. If, for any reason, the guide feels it is not safe to summit, there is no guarantee of summiting. Safety is always priorty.

In order to participate in these activities, participants will be required to provide information about those participating in the event and to comply with the service provider’s terms and conditions.
Safety, Clothing & Food
- This requires a good level of fitness. Caution is advisable on all mountain terrain.
- Hiking boots with ankle support and Rain gear is a necessity as weather can be unpredictable.
- Backpack for each climber
- The hiking trail can be wet and slippery after heavy rainfall, so caution is advised
- It is advisable to carry extra layers/clothing for this hike particularly on summit.
- Hats and gloves are advisable all year round.NO JEANS
- Bring water, food and snacks for the day.
- Sunscreen!
- Change of clothes for after the climb

- This is private land and trekers must adhere to Country Code - "No dogs, no litter"
- We support the “Leave No Trace” anti-litter and environmental protection campaign.
