North Mangerton Mountain is a moderate to difficult 4 to 5 hour hour (10 km) walking route to the summit of Mangerton (839m) taking in the wonderful Devils Punchbowl lake near the summit and North Mangerton Peak, a lesser climbed peak in the range.
It is a moderate to difficult hike to the summit and, though requiring reasonable fitness, is one of the most accessible mountains over 800m in Ireland. The walk has spectacular views of the Devil’s Punchbowl, MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Horses Glen, Killarney National Park and, on a good day, South West Kenmare Bay.
Climbing Mangerton is a satisfying and spectacular mountain hike. We offer local experienced mountain guides who will share local knowledge and information on this truly spectacular place along with encouragement and guidance during your ascent.
The guide will lead the pace on the day. If, for any reason, the guide feels it is not safe to summit, there is no guarantee of summiting. Safety is always priorty.

Safety, Clothing and Food
This hike requires a reasonable level of fitness. You will require suitable footwear and clothing, a packed snack and be ready for an adventure! Caution is advisable on all mountain terrain.
Please bring the following:
- Hiking boots with ankle support and Rain gear is a necessity as weather can be unpredictable.
- Backpack for each climber
- The walking trail can be wet and slippery after heavy rainfall, so caution is always advised.
- It is advisable to carry extra layers/clothing for this walk particularly on summit.
- Hats and gloves are advisable all year round. NO JEANS
- Water, food and snacks are important.
- Sunscreen
