Summit Carrauntoohil By O'Shea's Gully
This route to the summit of Carrauntoohil is via the famous Brother O'Shea's Gully which offers panoramic views of the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks dotted with beautifully scenic hanging valleys and mountain lakes.
Climbing Carrauntoohil is a challenging and hugely satisfying day out.
Climbing Carrauntoohil requires a good level of fitness as this return hike is of 6/7 hours duration. You will require suitable footwear and clothing, a packed lunch and be ready for an adventure! PLEASE SEE KIT LIST BELOW

Safety, Clothing & Food
Climbing Carrauntoohil by O'Shea's Gully is a strenuous hike (approx 13km) and requires a good level of fitness, so is advisable for more experienced walkers. Caution is advisable on all mountain terrain.
Hiking boots with ankle support and Rain gear is a necessity as weather can be unpredictable.
Backpack for each climber
The walking trail can be wet and slippery after heavy rainfall, so caution is advised
It is advisable to carry extra layers/clothing for this walk particularly on summit.
Hats and gloves are advisable all year round. No Jeans
Bring water, food and snacks for the day.
