Summit Carrauntoohil By The Heavenly Gates

This direct ascent route to the summit of Carrauntoohil by the The Heavenly Gates route offers panoramic views of the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks.

Climbing Carrauntoohil requires a good level of fitness as this return hike is of 6/7 hours duration.  You will require suitable footwear and clothing, a packed lunch and be ready for an adventure! PLEASE SEE KIT LIST BELOW

This is a challenging and hugely satisfying day out. We offer local experienced mountain guides. During your climb, we will share local knowledge and information on this truly spectacular place along with encouragement and guidance during your ascent of Ireland's highest peak.

In order to participate in these activities, participants will be required to provide information about those participating in the event and to comply with the service provider’s terms and conditions.

Safety, Clothing & Food

  • Climbing Carrauntoohil is a strenuous hike and requires a good level of fitness.   Caution is advisable on all mountain terrain.
  • Hiking boots with ankle support and Rain gear is a necessity as weather can be unpredictable.
  • Backpack for each climber
  • The hiking trail can be wet and slippery after heavy rainfall, so caution is advised
  • It is advisable to carry extra layers/clothing for this hike particularly on summit.
  • Hats and gloves are advisable all year round. NO JEANS
  • Bring water, food and snacks for the day.
  • Sunscreen!
  • Change of clothes for after the hike 
  • €2 for parking at Cronin's Yard

Environmental

  • This is private land and trekers must adhere to Country Code - "No dogs, no litter" 
  • We support the “Leave No Trace” anti-litter and environmental protection campaign. 

Please inform us if you have any of the following:

  • Please let us know of old or recent injuries.  This may affect you on descent ..!!
  • Medical issues / Inhaler asthma/ medication 
  • If you have any problem with Vertigo, this may not be the activity for you as the descent is very steep. 

The guide will lead the pace on the day.  If, for any reason, the guide feels it is not safe to summit, there is no guarantee of summiting.  Safety is always priorty.
