Scrambling Masterclass
Overview & Highlights
Take your hiking to the next level. Gain the skills to explore Ireland's most beautiful ridges. This is an instructional Masterclass. Weather permitting, you will summit a 1000m peak while improving your skills toolkit and meeting like minded people. Locations are weather dependent. Possibilities include Beenkeragh Ridge, Comeen na Péista Ridge, or The Bone.
Learn specific techniques including:
- Hold testing
- Route choice
- Climbing techniques
- Down scrambling
- Basic emergency techniques
With broad alpine climbing experience, Tomás O Donoghue leads this course.
Group sizes are managed for safety and quality. Up to 10 participants with 1 guide. Up to 14 participants with 2 guides.
A head for heights is a MUST for this hike as it requires hiking on very steep ground, across an exposed ridge and also scrambling on high ground.
The guide will lead the pace on the day. Safety is always priority.

Wander Wild Festival works with selected local outdoor service providers to deliver our outdoor activities. In order to participate in these activities, participants will be required to provide information about those participating in the event and to comply with the service provider’s terms and conditions.
Safety & Fitness
Fitness Level: Scrambling is strenuous. A good level of fitness is required.
Terrain: Ground is often wet and slippery. Exercise caution at all times.
Gear & Clothing
Footwear: Hiking boots or sturdy mountain shoes with good grip are essential.
Rain Gear: Waterproof jacket and trousers are mandatory. Weather is unpredictable.
Layers: Pack extra warm clothing for the summit, a softshell or fleece. Hats and gloves are recommended year-round.
Prohibited: NO JEANS.
Equipment: One backpack per participant.
Nutrition & Essentials
Food & Drink: Bring sufficient water, lunch, and snacks for the full day.
Sun Protection: Wear sunscreen.
Post-Hike: Bring a change of clothes for the return journey.
Environmental This is private land and trekkers must adhere to Country Code "No dogs, no litter". We support the “Leave No Trace” anti litter and environmental protection campaign.
Please inform us if you have any of the following: Please let us know of old or recent injuries. This may affect you on descent ..!! Medical issues / Inhaler asthma/ medication. If you have any problem with Vertigo, this may not be the activity for you as the terrain is steep and exposed. The guide will lead the pace on the day. If, for any reason, the guide feels it is not safe to summit, there is no guarantee of summiting. Safety is always a priority.
